ChatGPT vs Google: Can ChatGPT Replace Google?
Ever since OpenAI announced the launch of their new chatbot by the name ChatGPT, speculation began about the future of Google. It was said that ChatGPT will soon make Google obsolete and with it, millions of blogs all over the net will be rendered useless. Very soon it turned into ChatGPT vs Google. ChatGPT was also accused to take away the jobs of writers by writing high-quality content in minutes.
Now, after almost three months after its launch, the picture is somewhat clear and it’s possible to compare ChatGPT and Google. So, today in this blog, we’ll try to compare the two and see the pros and cons of both.
Few facts about ChatGPT
Let’s first have a look at some facts and information about ChatGPT. ChatGPT is a chatbot developed by the company OpenAI and it was launched in November 2022. The GPT stands for Generative Pre-trained Transformer. This chatbot is fed huge information from all over the internet and is trained extensively and repeatedly. Because of this training, ChatGPT can just predict the answer to your question in the same way as a student who practiced thousands of Mathematical problems can solve the questions in an exam.
It has free and paid both versions. To use ChatGPT, you have to log in with your email and phone number. This is required only once. After logging in your screen will look somewhat like this:
As you can see, there’s a dialogue box at the bottom, where you can type your query. Now, compared to Google, where as soon as you start typing your question, suggestions start coming, ChatGPT will wait till you complete your query. After you have typed your question and hit send, It’ll give an answer just like a human responding on a chatting app. You won’t get many choices of answers like in google but a concise and to-the-point answer. If you want further clarification or info related to the same question, you can continue the chat. If you feel that the answer is running too long, you can hit the stop button and it’ll stop.
Trying to solve a serious issue!
For example, I tried to ask ChatGPT about what type of jewellery will go with a closed neckline. I further narrowed down my query by asking about specific earrings. And it helped me perfectly with very concise and helpful answers without any confusion.
Just notice how this app gives answers as if we are talking to a real person and not AI. This is how ChatGPT works and it’s just mind-blowing after using google for so long. I was instantly in love with ChatGPT but after a few more uses, I realized that there are some drawbacks too.
So, let’s compare Google and ChatGPT:
ChatGPT vs Google
We can compare both only if we intend to use ChatGPT for queries, like google. Google is a search engine based on SEO and it displays results from millions of blogs on the internet, whereas ChatGPT is a chatbot that gives answers based on information fed previously to it.
ChatGPT | |
ChatGPT gives answers based on its training by consuming huge information from the internet. | Google gives us answers by displaying millions of blogs written worldwide based on its constantly changing complex algorithms. |
ChatGPT gives a concise and to the point answer without any confusion. | Google displays an array of answers we can choose from according to our need. |
There is no choice between answers and if we want a different response, we have to reframe the question. And even then there's possibility of getting a similar answer. | Google spoils us for choices and we can quickly hop over different blogs and websites to choose the answer we like the best. |
Sometimes ChatGPT gives answers without any context and related info. | Google displays blogs which are written after thorough research and with accuracy, so the chances of error are minimum. Moreover, if we feel the answer is incorrect we can always go to other websites. |
ChatGPT gives us precise answers and it doesn't show any related queries that might help us in further narrowing down the response. | Google shows us other related questions asked by users and it helps us to identify and narrow down our query. |
From this table, we can infer that if we want a diverse response, Google is the answer but if we require a quick and concise answer, ChatGPT works well.
What is the real use of ChatGPT?
So, what is the actual use of ChatGPT if not as a search tool? The answer is that it can be used to solve pretty much all of your problems. It can write high-quality essays for your homework, complex codes, fiction stories, marketing copy, research papers, etc. Like on asking to write a short fiction story, this was the response:
As you can see that the story is well-written but hardly interesting. I tried a few more times but each time I got a similar result. Maybe it’ll prove more beneficial while writing codes.
Does it mean that the jobs of writers and coders are in danger? It might look so but it’s far from the truth. ChatGPT being AI needs constant training and supervision. Since it’s trained by using the contents from the internet, there is always a possibility of incorrect or incomplete responses. Human intervention will always be required. ChatGPT can be used to assist in idea generation and a little help here and there. It will prove a powerful tool in our hands.
Conclusion
At the end, we can say that there is nothing like ChatGPT vs Google. Both serve different purposes. Google will continue to be used as a search engine while ChatGPT will change the world once again.
